Keeping the detergent drawer clean is one of those small chores that makes a big difference—no smells, no residue, and better washing results. Here’s a simple, effective way to get it like new and mold-free:
What you’ll need
- Warm water
- White vinegar
- Baking soda (optional)
- Old toothbrush or small brush
- Cloth or sponge
Step-by-step method
1. Remove the drawer
Most washing machines (like those from LG or Samsung) have a release tab—press it and pull the drawer out completely.
2. Soak it
Place the drawer in a basin of warm water + 1 cup vinegar.
Let it soak for 20–30 minutes to loosen detergent buildup and mold.
3. Scrub thoroughly
Use a toothbrush to clean:
- Corners and grooves
- Fabric softener compartment
- Any visible black spots (mold)
For stubborn grime, sprinkle a little baking soda and scrub again.
4. Clean inside the slot
Dip a cloth or brush in vinegar and clean inside the machine where the drawer sits—this area often hides mold.
5. Rinse and dry
Rinse the drawer with clean water and dry it completely before putting it back.
Extra tip (for odor & mold prevention)
Once a month, run an empty hot wash with vinegar or a machine cleaner (like Affresh Washing Machine Cleaner) to keep the whole machine fresh.
How to keep it clean longer
- Leave the drawer slightly open after washing
- Don’t overfill detergent (excess causes buildup)
- Clean it every 2–4 weeks
